Set up and check reminders on Android

Understand reminder permissions, test delivery and find what to check when an alert is missing or late.

Notifications and alarms use different permissions

Open Profile → Reminders. Steady schedules alerts on the phone; the website does not need to be open. Android controls whether notifications can appear and how precisely they can be scheduled.

Notifications
Allows Android to display Steady alerts. Granting precise-alarm access alone does not unblock notifications.
Alarms & reminders
A special Android access setting for precisely scheduled alerts. It does not accept advertising or share your history.

When you enable a new type of reminder, Steady requests any missing permissions. If alarm settings open, you choose whether to grant access. Returning without it keeps approximate reminders available.

Choose which alerts to receive

  • Fasting progress: alerts at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of your selected duration. The 100% alert already covers the planned end; the app avoids sending it twice.
  • Planned end reminder: an alert when the selected duration is reached. It does not stop or save the timer automatically.
  • Water reminders: scheduled only during an active fast, up to its planned end. Choose an interval of one, two, three or four hours.
  • Daily reminder: a time to review your plan. It does not start a fast or require you to begin one.

Enable only the alerts you want. Turning an option off stops scheduling that type of reminder; it does not delete fasting records.

Why a water reminder may be skipped

The interval is counted from the start of the fast, not from when you look at the screen. With Pause water reminders at night enabled, alerts are allowed from 8:00 AM up to, but not including, 10:00 PM in the phone’s local time. Water alerts within fifteen minutes of another reminder are also skipped.

For example, an alert planned for 11:00 PM will not appear with the night pause enabled. This differs from blocked permissions: first check the time window, interval and whether the fast has reached its planned end. The feature reminds you of an option you selected; it does not calculate how much water you need.

Run two different checks

  1. Press Send test notification and check the phone’s notification panel. This checks immediate delivery, not the timing of a future alarm.
  2. Press Test reminder in 1 minute. The card displays the scheduled time.
  3. Return to the phone’s home screen or lock it, then check for the scheduled alert.
  4. If one test works and the other does not, note which failed and the permission status shown before changing settings.

You do not need to create a test fast to use these controls. A successful test helps check the setup, but does not guarantee every future alert.

If an alert is late or missing

If Android blocks notifications, press Notification settings and check Steady’s permission and notification channels. Also check Do Not Disturb, sound settings and whether the alert arrived silently in the notification panel.

If the card says timing is approximate, open Allow precise reminders to review Android alarm access. If you do not want to grant it, keep approximate alerts. Android may delay them by up to an hour, or longer with battery restrictions. Setting names vary by version and manufacturer.

If permissions are granted, check whether the manufacturer put Steady to sleep or restricted its battery use. Changing that restriction may affect consumption; you do not need to switch off battery saving or all protection settings across the whole phone.

After changing settings, travelling or restoring

Reopen Steady after changing permissions so it can refresh the status and reschedule relevant alerts. If you changed time zones, open the app to update its time zone before relying on the daily time.

A Steady backup does not include reminders or permissions. Set them up separately on another phone. A notification is also not proof that a record was saved: check the summary and History for that.

What to include if the issue continues

Report the problem from Profile. Include the reminder type, whether the immediate or one-minute test failed, Android version and phone model. Note whether the card said timing was approximate or precise reminders were enabled. Diagnostics are optional and can be reviewed before sending; avoid attaching fasting history or health data.
